Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God. - 2 Corinthians 7:1 (NIV)
His alarm clock annoyingly buzzed at 6 am. Time to begin a new day. Life has gotten so fast ... there's too much to do. He's got to keep up. In the midst of the busy man's over-scheduled day, he might find a little time for God, a little time for family, a little time for himself, a little time for others, and a little time for fun. He is spread too thin.
In reality, his life is more Like a stone skipping across the surface of life. Never fully experiencing anyone or anything before moving on to the next encounter. If this sounds familiar, be careful. There is an inherent danger in dabbling with your faith and time with God.
By spending only a small amount of time with God, we can catch the aroma of His greatness, but we hardly ever see the flame, feel the heat, and experience the abiding warmth that His presence brings.
Our dabbling leaves us vulnerable and open for attacks. Think about the time and the quality of time you give to God on a daily basis and compare that to the call to sacrifice our lives like Christ sacrificed for us.
Toss away the idols, the time wasters, the distractions, and the over-stuffed schedule. Ensure that God is part of everything you do - every task - every appointment - every relationship.
Get in God's presence right now. Make God and your time with him, your first priority.
THE RIGHT NEXT STEP:
- Make a list of your regularly scheduled life. Ensure that God receives the bulk of your attention in each task - or toss it.
PRAY: God, I want to be known as a man who seeks you. Release me of the busyness that takes me away from you. Show me how to stop and listen for your voice and your direction. Forgive me for reducing our time to a place in my schedule. Amen.
