Meeting Starters - Christian Read the Bible

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. - 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)

Calvin struggled to drag the massive box into the back yard. Another trip and yet another with arms loaded with treated wood and large plastic parts finally came to rest where the new play-set would eventually stand.

Over the next 2 hours, Calvin pulled parts, opened up small plastic bags, and sorted through screws, bolts, fasteners, and alien-like objects he had never seen before. The ground was now littered with what would eventually be a fortress of fun for his kids.

Like many guys, Calvin began assembling the structure with only an occasional glance at the parts list, the step- by-step instructions, and the warnings in bold print. He was certain of his skills. After hours of work and with the last screw in place, Calvin stepped over the dozens of pans and instmction booklet remaining on the ground, to view his work. It was "good enough", he thought.

The kids ran out to play on the new structure. As the swing began to rock - large timbers collapsed, and the fort toppled down... crashing into his daughter's head. Calvin quickly picked her up and rushed to the hospital.. desperate for help. The doctors quickly went to work, stitched and bandaged her wounds. She would be okay, while Calvin struggled to forgive himself.

Christian men can't be like Calvin if we want to build God's kingdom. Reading the Bible is our blueprint, our guide, our instruction, and our blessing from God. Anything short of using all of the pans, assembling them properly, and following it closely... results in someone getting hurt... if not lost forever. And we are left with the worry of trying to overcome our guilt for leading others astray.

THE RIGHT NEXT STEP

How often do you read the Bible? Challenge yourself to read God's word once per day, and think about what it says.

PRAY: God, I can't do this life without your guidance. Forgive me what I think the instructions are simply suggestions. Correct me through your Word and teach me how to live obedient to Your commands. Amen
